About the Item

The rare Cloud chair (or "Pilvi" as it was called in Finnish, Pilvi means "cloud") was designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro in the early to mid 1980s for Avarte and has a very postmodern expression about it. Most likely inspired by the designs of Memphis Milano who had a major breakthrough a few years earlier on the international design scene. The design consists of a green lacquered pressed and bent wooden structure with upholstered pads on the seat and the backrest. It also has a one sided armrest in bent wood, lacquered in pink for a very quirky contrast against the otherwise green tones. The wooden part sits on top of a green lacquered metal frame and legs. This model was never sold to the public and did only appeared in a few chosen places like theatres and restaurants. Among them a restaurant in Stockholm. Unconfirmed rumours has it that it was the dining hall for the workers at Swedish telecom powerhouse LM Ericsson. This specific example is most likely from that place. It's in a very good vintage condition with light ware consistent with age and use.
