About the Item

A superb quality 19th century regency period Mahogany chaise longue of rare design having Elegant carved decoration which includes eagles Head to back and scrolling end raised on unusual Bulbous legs with carved anthemion decoration And replaced brass castors ( This 19th century regency mahogany chaise Longue is indeed a sofa of most unusual design. Typical in size for the period it is constructed from high quality mahogany timber. It does however have a very distinctive and detailed carved eagle type head to the back, along with some rather unusual legs, which makes us wonder where the design originated. It is certainly an incredibly elegant, practical sofa however and has been recently reupholstered meaning the fabric and upholstery are in excellent condition. Perfect for the end of the bed, anywhere else in a bedroom, a large entrance hallway, or just about any other room of the house this could be a practical and functional focal point around the home). There are a few different theories as to where the term carver chair originates, but we rather like the simple one of a carver chair always being at the head and foot of the table and therefore occupied by the carver of the meat. Whichever way you look at it carver chairs are normally bolder, slightly larger and generally just more impressive than a normal dining chair. Of course these days carver chairs can be used be used in many places around the home, as desk chairs, bedroom chairs or even spare hall chairs, as opposed to just being used around the dining table.
