About the Item

Claudio Salocchi’s design explores research in the decade from the 1970s to the 1980s, when new ways of living and experimentation were central to the work of Italian designers. Free System revolutionises the idea of the lounge by suggesting that free continuous seating could be the solution for the living area. It is an upholstered system deriving from the concept of the “patterned floor” or tatami, with free combination of the padded modules. The revolutionary potential of the Free System project is now more contemporary than ever, perfect in any living area or homescape. It is characterised by total modularity and easy-to-combine elements that aim to optimise the use of space. Free System is a programme of upholstered furniture that goes beyond the sofa typology, where the available elements - tatami, pouf and seat with different, interchangeable backrests - are the protagonists of a modular system that can be combined in multiple ways and versatile, easy, unlimited configurations. Structure: Upholstered furniture system with modular elements on a supporting structure of solid wood and plywood, base with elastic straps, feet and concealed coupling system. Padding in single-density polyurethane foam and polyester wadding. Upholstery : The upholstery on seats and back is quilted to enhance softness and increase seating comfort thanks to shaped polyurethane foam inserts. The sofa is completely upholstered with removable covers. The coupling system uses special plastic clips. Available elements: _ seat module with curved backrest: L100 D100 H74, seat H39 cm; _ seat module with inclined backrest: L100 D100 H74, seat H39 cm; _ corner seat module with curved backrest: L100 D100 H74, seat H39 cm, right or left; _ corner seat module with inclined backrest: L100 D100 H74, seat H39 cm, right or left; _ pouf module: L100 D100 H39 cm; _ tatami module: L100 D100 H16 cm; The upholstered modules can be combined together to create endless configuration possibilities through free and continuous re-modularity, generating islands, linear or corner compositions, with more regular and essential layouts. The seat modules can also be used individually as pouf or tatami elements. DIMENSIONS: 4 - seat module with inclined backrest: L100 D100 H74, seat H39 cm; 2 - corner seat module with inclined backrest: L100 D100 H74, seat H39 cm, right or left; 2 - pouf module: L100 D100 H39 cm;

Acerbis Free System Sofa by Claudio Salocchi

By Claudio Salocchi, Acerbis

Located in Brooklyn, NY

In 1973, Claudio Salocchi designed Free System: a system of padded furniture deriving from the concept of “operated flooring”, or tatami, where the padded units could be placed freely side by side. With its completely modular and sectional elements and from the perspective of an optimal use of space, we can view Free System as the embodiment of the modern house utopia. A programme of padded furniture that goes beyond the sofa model, Free System presents a series of elements (tatami, pouf and seat with different and interchangeable backrests) that make up a modular system that can be arranged in a variety of combinations. Available elements _ seat module with curved backrest: L100 D100 H74, seat H39 cm; _ seat module with inclined backrest: L100 D100 H74, seat H39 cm; _ pouf module...
