Italian Art Deco Sculptural Walnut Sofa with Original Upholstery, 1930s A striking and highly sculptural Italian Art Deco sofa dating from the 1930s, distinguished by its elegant proportions, expressive walnut framework and beautifully preserved original upholstery. The design is defined by the sweeping, organically curved solid walnut armrests, which flow gracefully from the front supports toward the back of the sofa. The warm, richly figured walnut provides a sophisticated contrast with the light floral upholstery and gives the piece a particularly sculptural profile when viewed from any angle. The sofa retains its original period upholstery, an increasingly rare and desirable feature. The decorative woven fabric displays an elaborate floral pattern in soft cream, beige, muted rose and green tones, complementing the warm color of the walnut beautifully. Rather than having been modernized or reupholstered, the sofa preserves much of its authentic 1930s character and atmosphere. Its generous three-seat format is balanced by a relatively light and elegant silhouette. The gently angled back, tapered walnut legs and elongated curved arms create a dynamic profile characteristic of sophisticated Italian furniture design of the Art Deco period.
