Designed by Ron Arad for Moroso in 2000, the Victoria and Albert 205 sofa stands among the most iconic and recognizable creations of the collection. Beyond its unique aesthetic appeal, the defining magic of this piece lies in its continuous flow of curved lines—a shape conceived as if drawn without ever lifting the pencil from the paper. Featuring perfectly symmetrical sides, it transforms space—giving life to form and light that open portals to artistic expression through a bold, balanced sculptural presence.
Rendered in a refined light blue Kvadrat fabric upholstery—or, in case of unavailability, an equivalent fabric similar in quality and color—this Victoria and Albert 205 sofa stands as a testament to Arad's revolutionary approach to collectible design.
The Moroso & Ron Arad Collection
A homage to the famous museum of decorative arts in London—where a major anthology of Ron Arad's work was staged in 2000—Victoria and Albert is born from the encounter between Arad's artistic genius and the technical expertise of Moroso®. Originally inspired by the shape of a "donut," the design was squashed, reworked, and reimagined, using irony to push past the conventional limits of industrial design.
Moroso's great achievement lies in supporting the creation of truly "unparalleled" objects: unique pieces born from a genuine desire to experiment. Artisans and designers worked side by side to reveal the perfect interaction between technical precision and expressive forms, manipulating materials to maximize malleability and comfort through exquisite production processes.
An Endless Gesture, Cast in Comfort
The creations of Moroso testify to the uniqueness of each individual work, the result of an expressionist production process rooted in material experimentation and artisanal gesture. In this elegant edition featuring perfectly symmetrical sides, materials take on rich textures and hues to arrive at an unrepeatable solution that bridges the worlds of design and art.
This deliberate interplay between structure, gesture, and organic volume perfectly reflects Ron Arad's lifelong fascination with dynamic forms and continuous lines. Simultaneously a highly comfortable sofa and a dramatic sculpture, the Victoria and Albert 205 commands attention in any foyer, living area, or gallery setting.
Craftsmanship & Materials
This Victoria and Albert 205 sofa features a distinct curved design with perfectly symmetrical sides. It is constructed over an internal steel frame reinforced with composite fiberglass and padded with stress-resistant polyurethane foam in differentiated densities. As standard, the polyurethane complies with CAL TB 117 standards without flame retardants, while a flame-retardant version (BS 5852, crib 5) is available with an 8% surcharge.
Supported by varnished steel tube legs equipped with adjustable chrome-plated steel glides, the sofa is fully outfitted with removable fabric covers in premium light blue Kvadrat (or an equivalent fabric matching in quality and color).
Entirely handmade in Italy, every edition reflects Moroso's exceptional craftsmanship and commitment to one-of-a-kind collectible design.
Note on Dimensions & Assembly:
Due to its dimensions (width 205 cm / 80.7 in), please ensure adequate clearance through doorways, stairwells, hallways, and elevators before placing an order. The steel feet are delivered unmounted.
