About the Item

This sofa, made by Forma in the 1960s, retains its original structure and has been reupholstered in a White boucle. The legs, crafted from Caviuna wood, add a touch of elegance and durability. The combination of the vibrant velvet and the sturdy wood legs makes this piece a striking addition to any interior. Forma Brazil was founded in the early 1950s by Carlo Hauner (1927–1997) and Martin Eisler (1913–1977), becoming one of the most influential furniture studios of Brazil’s Modernist period. The duo brought together European refinement and Brazilian creativity, producing designs that were both sculptural and functional. Working primarily in rosewood, jacarandá, leather, and iron, Hauner and Eisler combined precise craftsmanship with an experimental approach to form and proportion. Their furniture captured the optimism of postwar Brazil—modern, elegant, and adaptable to contemporary living. Celebrated internationally, Forma’s work helped define the visual language of Brazilian Modernism and remains highly sought after for its timeless sophistication and enduring craftsmanship.
