About the Item

Made in Sweden around 1840, this carved pine bench retains its worn, old grey paint and an upholstered seat. The carving gives the frame decorative interest, while the aged grey paint, characteristic of Swedish painted furniture, has worn naturally over time to a soft, settled surface valued by collectors. The upholstered seat provides comfort for a long bench intended for several sitters. Suited to placement against a wall, at the foot of a bed, in an entrance hall, or beneath a window, the bench offers seating with strong period character. The worn grey paint gives it the muted, weathered appearance associated with Swedish country furniture, which suits both traditional and plainer modern interiors.
