Antique Empire-Style Stool in Carved Wood, France, XIX century An elegant and finely crafted stool from the French Empire period, dating to the early 19th century. The frame is made of solid wood likely mahogany or walnut and displays superb workmanship with classical decorative detailing. The legs are shaped as fluted columns, adorned with stylised acanthus leaves and resting on squared bases featuring carved Greek key motifs. The crossed stretcher, a hallmark of the Empire style, is composed of gracefully curved supports that meet in the centre with a carved rosette. The structure exudes harmony, strength, and neoclassical poise, drawing clear inspiration from ancient Roman design. The seat has been professionally restored and newly upholstered in a high-quality ivory coloured fabric with a long, soft pile. This luxurious, plush texture lends a sense of understated opulence and tactile comfort. The perimeter of the seat is bordered with a decorative carved edge that echoes the rhythm and refinement of the frame below. This distinguished piece may be used as a stool, ottoman, or footrest, and would complement traditional interiors as well as eclectic or curated contemporary spaces.
