About the Item

Stools designed by Jan de Jong for Pauluskerk Uden, The Netherlands, 1966. These classic stools perfectly capture the essence of Bossche School furniture. Crafted from pine wood with a semi-transparent olive green brown stained finish, the wood grain remains beautifully visible, and the surface has developed a soft, rich patina through years of use. The stools are constructed with the trademark aligned iron nails that are emblematic of Jan de Jong’s designs. The form is instantly recognizable, a sharply defined, tapered base and clean geometric lines rooted in the proportional system of the plastic number. Each stool features the characteristic half-circle handles on both sides, making them easy to carry and reposition, a subtle yet thoughtful functional detail. We currently have five stools available, priced and sold individually. Their timeless design and compact proportions make them versatile pieces that can serve as additional seating, side tables, or accent objects in both contemporary and historic interiors. The stools match perfectly with the writing tables we have 2 available of as well. Visible on the 6th picture. These stools originate from the Pauluskerk in Uden, one of Jan de Jong’s important projects. The church has been preserved as a monument and now functions as an office. We acquired this entire collection of furniture from a priest in Eindhoven, where it had been relocated after the closure of the Uden church. When that second church also closed, the furniture finally became available on the market. Jan de Jong played a central role in translating the theoretical principles of Dom Hans van der Laan into built form. His impressive oeuvre made him one of the most important architects of the Bossche School. Through his extensive architectural practice, he gave the movement its physical language, uniting structure, proportion and silence into timeless architecture and furniture. Provenance: Pauluskerk, Uden, 1966. Acquired from a priest in Eindhoven after the church’s relocation and later closure.
