About the Item

Oak Stool 2 by Romain des Bois Dimensions: D 30 x H 50 cm. Materials: Oak. About: Romain des Bois is, above all, rooted in a deep love for the countryside — especially the countryside of Corrèze, in France. A place he has returned to since childhood, but above all the land of his grandparents, Albert and Paulette, whose way of living continues to shape his work today. Originally trained as a graphic designer, Romain has been working independently for over ten years. Throughout that journey, he has always been drawn to craftsmanship: to handmade objects, to things built with care, carrying stories and preserving the value of time. Wood has been part of his life from an early age. In his grandfather Albert’s workshop in Corrèze, he learned through simple and meaningful gestures — building furniture, repairing worn tool handles, making wooden crates for potatoes, restoring old barn doors weathered by time. Through these moments, he developed a quiet and intuitive relationship with material, function, and making. Over the years, other influences naturally became part of his universe: beekeeping, inherited from his father who produces honey each August, and the seasonal cooking of his grandmother Paulette, who transformed the fruits and vegetables from the garden into everyday rituals. Today, somewhere between family heritage and contemporary creation, Romain des Bois extends these gestures through sculptural wooden objects and functional pieces. Each creation is an invitation to slow down — objects designed to last, to age beautifully, and to tell a story.
