About the Item

A rare easy chair designed by the architect Helge Vestergaard Jensen and executed by the cabinet-maker Peder Pedersen for the exhibition in 1955. The Racquet chair chair has distinct reminiscences of the Windsor chair though the modern lamination technique has made possible an independent and personal form. By the use of monofilament for back and seat the architect has attained an appearance of lightness, and at the same time a comfortable sitting posture. The chair accommodates a thin seat cushion and a head bolster which adjusts to the user via a patinated brass ball counterweight.
