New finds from old Kura (traditional style warehouse) in Kanto area, Japan. A pair of 2 different size box chest of drawers, in the vein of Medicine chest "Kusuri dansu" in Japanese - one of Tansu furnitures. Product of late Edo era (1780s - 1868), estimate from the style & conditions. Pieces of old paper labels are still remain on the drawer faces. Fully made of made of Kiri (Paulownia) solid wood boards, known to its light weight, natural repellent & humidity resistance, Kiri is considered as an Ideal wood material for storing delicate materials - so the furnitures made of Kiri preserved well themselves too. It's still durable enough for actual use.
