About the Item

Georgian Sheraton Mahogany Canterbury George III Sheraton period canterbury of a rare large size; in faded figured mahogany with ebony stringing around the drawers, the drawers lined in mahogany and with their original gilt knobs and locks, attractive boat shaped top on square tapered legs, 3 original Georgian castors with 1 old replacement. The legs intact and structurally sound. I bought this in Scotland from a dealer who found it in a local house - though with it's oak drawer lining rather than ash found in Scottish-made furniture, I believe it was made in England. I really like the rare large size, indeed it’s the largest one I’ve come across; the good original colour; the original knobs still with their old gilding intact; also the late 18th features including Sheraton style square tapered legs, the castors with sharp angled forks and the old brass locks.
