About the Item

A delightful Vintage flame mahogany Georgian Revival library breakfront bookcase / display cabinet, dating from the mid 20th Century and the rear bearing the makers label for the renowned 20th Century cabinet maker Bevan Funnell. Founded in 1945 and twice winners of The Queen’s Award For Enterprise, Bevan Funnell have an innovative and distinguished history. The top features a moulded cornice with a dental and arcaded frieze. The four astragal glazed doors open to reveal three adjustable glass shelves in each section. It is fitted with with lights above each section and they shine through the glass shelves illuminating all the contents. The base has four panelled doors opening to cupboards, each fitted with a central shelf. It is complete with working locks and keys, and is raised on a plinth base. There is no mistaking its superb quality and very grand design, which is certain to make it a talking point in your home and stand proud in whichever room you choose to display it. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THAT THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION AND DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY RESTRICTED MATERIALS. Condition: In really excellent condition having only been beautifully cleaned and waxed in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Dimensions in cm: Height 214 cm x Width 202 cm x Depth 37 cm Dimensions in inches: Height 7 foot x Width 6 foot, 7 inches x Depth 1 foot, 3 inches Flame Mahogany Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. Our reference: A3988
