About the Item

This sideboard was made in France in the 1940s, in the tradition of the regional oak workshops that furnished French homes on either side of the war. Its carved doors follow the line of work associated with Charles Dudouyt, and it is offered as a piece of the period rather than a documented attribution. The case is solid oak in a natural finish, with the open grain left visible across the top and the sides. Each door carries a grid of hand carved pyramid studs. Between them sits an open niche above two drawers with metal drop pulls, and the whole rests on a shaped apron and short feet. At 181 cm wide it serves as a dining room server, an entrance hall console, or low storage in a living room, and the open niche holds a lamp or a run of books without crowding the top. The piece is structurally sound and refinished, and it carries the marks of ordinary use. In stock and ready to ship from our workshop.
