Short description A late 18th century French provincial confiturier or petit buffet, crafted in walnut with secondary woods and retaining its old iron hardware. The cabinet features a single drawer above a paneled door, opening to a shelved interior. Its modest Louis XV silhouette, scalloped apron, worn feet, and deeply aged surface give it the quiet strength and honesty of an untouched rural piece. Full description This late 18th century French provincial confiturier cabinet embodies the restrained elegance of country-made Louis XV furniture. Compact in scale yet visually substantial, it is built with a single drawer over a paneled cupboard door and stands on gently shaped feet above a scalloped apron. The façade is marked by a beautifully simple paneled door, a subtly molded drawer front, and old wrought iron escutcheons that reinforce its rustic character. The surface has developed a rich, dark patina over time, with areas of wear, rubbing, shrinkage, and age-related irregularity that speak to generations of use. The top, made from wide old boards, shows the kind of honest wear and movement one hopes to find in a genuinely early provincial piece. The interior is plain and functional, fitted with a shelf, exactly as one would expect from an 18th century rural household cabinet made for daily use rather than display. The rear construction, secondary woods, hand-worked surfaces, and old interior drawer lock all support the impression of a piece that has remained largely untouched. It is a cabinet with strong decorative presence despite its relatively modest size, equally suited for use in a kitchen, hallway, bedroom, or living room. Old worming visible in places, along with shrinkage, minor losses, surface wear, oxidation to the iron hardware, and unevenness typical of early provincial furniture. The door closes, though it needs to be lifted slightly to fall neatly into place due to wear in the old hinges.
