About the Item

A spectacular and commanding pair of mid-century modern bachelor chests / cabinets, designed in the manner of Milo Baughman circa 1960s. This matched pair exhibits a masterful play of wood tones and architectural structure, making them highly versatile pieces that can function as low credenzas, media cabinets, or magnificent, oversized luxury nightstands. The cabinets feature a beautiful solid walnut outer casing that frames two spectacular book-matched doors faced in rich, highly figured Brazilian rosewood. The dramatic, swirling ink-like grain lines of the rosewood doors are anchored by minimalist, sleek chrome-plated pull handles. The doors open to reveal a highly functional, thoughtfully designed interior storage suite, featuring a pull-out drawer stacked above a spacious lower compartment with an adjustable wooden shelf. The cabinets are elevated by incredibly heavy, robust 1/4-inch-thick solid steel plinth bases with a brilliant, mirror-like chrome plating. This structural detail gives the chests a floating, monumental modern aesthetic. Unmarked but built to the absolute highest tier of mid-century American craftsmanship, this pair is an outstanding acquisition for collectors of organic modernism and high-end 1960s design.
