About the Item

A Cotswold school oak cabinet on stand. English. Circa 1920s. The cabinet with double doors, each set with octagonal applied panels. The sides showing through dovetail construction to the top and bottom. The whole executed with chamfered detailing and peg construction. The cabinet stands on a double X stretcher base and octagonal uprights, mirroring the form of the cabinet’s panels. Handcrafted and made in solid oak throughout, and with its original patina, the cabinet is in very good condition. There are some marks consistent with age, notably the top having differences in colour and a few indentations. A historic small repair to the corner of the base and to the right hand leg join near the dowel, please refer to the photographs. Both keys work the locks, the left hand lock has worn with age, and engages only partially. The interior has a fixed shelf to each side, with some historic ink marks visible to the right hand compartment. The cabinet sits securely on the stand without fixings, its weight providing natural stability. Additional dimensions information: The interior shelves are 42cm deep and have 42cm in height above and below.
