About the Item

This unique cabinet brings together precious woods and cloisonné enamel in a refined dialogue between structure and ornament. Crafted in amaranth wood, distinguished by its natural purple hue, and red-stained pearwood veneer, its surfaces are enriched with multicolored cloisonné enamel earthenware tiles produced by the Manufacture des Émaux de Longwy. Decorated with a vanilla motif, the enamels introduce rhythm and chromatic depth, allowing craftsmanship and color to define the cabinet’s presence within an interior. The upper section features a two-tiered niche with mirrored interior doors, creating a layered play of reflection and ornament. The side panels and exterior doors are adorned with Longwy enamels, while the lower section incorporates a drawer fitted with partial-extension runners and a push-to-open system, seamlessly integrated into the decorative composition. The cabinet is crowned with a conical pinnacle topped by a cube, whose four sides are decorated with Longwy enamel tiles, reinforcing the verticality and symbolic presence of the piece. This architectural termination echoes the ornamental language developed throughout the cabinet, where structure and decoration are conceived as inseparable. The cabinet was handcrafted by Craman-Lagarde, a French workshop renowned for its contemporary approach to fine cabinetmaking. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to precision, material research, and the renewal of decorative craftsmanship. This piece belongs to the Lémuriforme collection, developed following Pierre Marie’s encounter in 2018 with Manufactures Emblem, a group dedicated to preserving and developing rare French decorative skills. The collection draws its inspiration from Ras el Hanout, Pierre Marie’s first tapestry woven in Aubusson in 2018, whose spice-inspired motifs—vanilla, chili, star anise, cardamom, and turmeric—are reinterpreted across enamel, wood, and furniture. Pierre Marie Studio is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Paris, dedicated to French contemporary design and the renewal of decorative arts. Rooted in the practice of artist-decorator Pierre Marie, the studio develops collectible pieces, interiors, and decorative art objects in close collaboration with master artisans, combining narration, ornament, and material research.

"The value of a work lies in its expression" is the philosophy the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, influenced by the materials, landscape, and history of the Venetian culture, clearly states. His architecture is deeply sensitive to the changes of time, from seasons to history, rooted in a sensuous material imagination. Scarpa is an undisputed name of the world’s modern architecture, which Malabar paid tribute to by designing the Venezia Modern Cabinet. Inspired by the beauty of the picturesque alleyways and romantic canals, this piece shares the mysterious map of Venice...
