About the Item

Constructed from solid wood with a medium-dark amber-brown finish, this Mid-Century storage cabinet features a horizontal tambour door running the full width of the top. The tambour is composed of narrow alternating-tone wood slats that retract smoothly along an integrated track. A small metal keyhole escutcheon is centered on the front face, and the original key is included. Four straight tapered legs are integrated into the case, giving the piece a grounded, low-profile stance. Tambour door construction was a practical solution widely used in mid-20th century furniture design, allowing access to storage without the swing clearance required by hinged doors. The mechanism relies on a flexible backing that allows the slats to follow a curved track, a technique adapted from roll-top desk construction into more compact cabinet forms. The divided interior — one large open compartment alongside three narrower cubbies — reflects the period's emphasis on organized, efficient storage. Total inside storage measures 38.75 x 16.25 x 14.5 with the cubbies each 12” x 3.5”. In overall original condition with some visible and age appropriate wear.
