About the Item

This striking tall cabinet is a masterful blend of history and contemporary functionality. The original cabinet was remodeled into a sliding-door cabinet using recycled wood from the Edo period. The piece is meticulously reconstructed using reclaimed wood from the Edo period, characterized by its deep, rich patina developed from centuries of exposure to smoke and hearth soot. The dark, monochromatic finish exudes a quiet, sophisticated presence that anchors any interior space. The cabinet features a traditional sliding door design, a hallmark of Japanese craftsmanship that maximizes space efficiency. While the doors reflect their authentic history with minor variations and subtle warping—a testament to the organic nature of the aged wood—they operate with smoothness. The interior offers versatile shelving, perfect for displaying curated ceramics, sculptural objects, or fine books. All shelves are removable. However, they are a bit thin, so we don't recommend placing very heavy items on them. The juxtaposition of the weathered, rustic dark exterior and the warm, raw wooden interior creates a compelling visual dialogue, bridging the gap between historical preservation and modern minimalist design. This is more than a storage solution; it is a storied artifact that brings a sense of wabi-sabi—the beauty of imperfection and the passage of time—into your home. Weight: 41.3kg
