About the Item

A very Fine Irish Mahogany bookcase and/or collector's cabinet. Circa 1750. Provenance: Portaferry House, Northern Ireland. Portaferry house is a Georgian country house built around 1760 by Andrew Savage, a Captain in the First Battalion of the Regimento de Infantrerie de Hibernia, of the Spanish Army of King Philip V of Spain. Andrew Savage extended the house with a west wing, completed in 1818, and this treasured mahogany cabinet would have sat very proudly in one of those rooms.
