About the Item

This Italian cabinet dates from the 1940s and is of rectangular form, the ebonized case raised on a stepped plinth finished with a reeded beech molding. The front is fitted with two sliding doors, each set with a beech panel within a black border and incised with a vertical chain of elongated lozenges. The door opening is framed in beech with a scalloped carved edge running around all four sides, and each door carries a slim metal pull. The interior is finished in beech and fitted with adjustable glass shelves resting on metal brackets. The reverse is ebonized, centered with a beech inset panel incised with a matching row of lozenges. The ebonized surfaces show some separation to the joinery at one top corner, a shallow indentation to one side, and minor crackling to the finish consistent with age.
