About the Item

Panelled cabinet. Oak wood, iron. Navarre, 17th century. It has some defects. It comes with three keys. This is a single-piece piece of furniture, not two parts, made of walnut wood. It consists of a lower section with two doors opening into a single compartment containing a shelf and two drawers with simple handles and lock escutcheons, and a slightly recessed upper section with two doors opening into another single compartment. The exterior is decorated with rectangular panels carved with simple geometric shapes (diamonds on the doors, curved shapes and bands on the drawers, and simple panels on the sides). Stylistically, it is reminiscent of typical forms of 16th-century Spanish Renaissance cabinetmaking, both in its composition and its paneled decoration. Compare it, for example, with a sideboard from Guipúzcoa in the Núria Pla Collection, dated between 1670 and 1700; with the 17th-century alcove (upper section with lattice doors) made of walnut, pine, and iron, now in the National Museum of Decorative Arts in Madrid; or with the 17th-century alcove with turned balusters in the Cervantes House Museum in Valladolid. · Size: 137X67X170 cm Weight is merely orientative, it may vary. Locker Walnut wood, wrought iron. Spain, 17th century. Rectangular low furniture made of oak with elements in wrought iron that rises slightly on four legs, has a slightly protruding straight top board and fronts decorated with carvings, and has two doors under two drawers, all with key lock (shields of lock decorated with simple lines only on the doors). When opening the doors, there is access to a space divided in two by a shelf decorated with a series of cut lines on its lower edge). In the upper part, under the board, there are carved brackets with simple scrolls, tongues and architectural elements; on the sides of the front some grooves remember architectural motifs. The exterior of doors and drawers and the sides of the furniture have a decoration based on frames of different sizes and shapes (crosses, squares, rectangular), following a tradition deeply rooted in Spanish furniture and that allows you to compare the ticket office...
