About the Item

A rare Colonial-style chest of drawers by Bodafors, Sweden, produced in the 1890s. Known as Model No. 555, it reflects the Anglo-Colonial influences that found their way into Scandinavian interiors at the end of the 19th century. The chest is crafted with woven straw panels and bamboo-form detailing throughout, creating a rich texture and warm, natural appearance. The drawer fronts are accented by turned pulls and original escutcheons, while the turned feet and balanced proportions give the piece a refined architectural character. Particularly noteworthy is the exceptional preservation of the original materials. The woven surfaces, bamboo-style trim, hardware, and finish remain largely intact and display an attractive age-related patina developed over more than a century. Presented in very good antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. The woven cladding remains remarkably well preserved, the drawers run smoothly, and the original finish has been retained. An uncommon and highly decorative Swedish antique that works equally well in Colonial, Scandinavian, organic modern, or eclectic interiors. A rare surviving Bodafors model with strong character and timeless appeal.
