Nature Inspired Modern Organic Credenza Made from Sustainable River Rescued Wood

Awa Kōpaka means glacier in te reo Māori. The Awa Kōpaka credenza was inspired by our observations of the organic forms of the glaciers on the West Coast of New Zealand. The credenza was designed by Richard Simpson during a three-day road trip down the West Coast, as we explored the Franz Josef & Fox Glaciers. You could see where it was carved out and the beautiful organic forms on the ice itself. Awa Kōpaka is expressing that form into a functional cabinet. It is a narrative about the movement of ice and how it continues to shape the landscape of New Zealand. The credenza is made from a matai tree rescued from a river on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. This sustainable timber...
