About the Item

A handsome and high quality French mid 19th century Napoleon III Period Japanese Lacquer, Ormolu and Giltwood desk. This stunning rectangular Bureau Plat is finished on all sides while raised on four circular, tapered, and Giltwood fluted legs ending with Ormolu sabots and finished with Giltwood bands above. The apron displays three front drawers, all with intricately detailed Japanese Lacquered scenes of classical figures and landscapes with wonderful trees, boats, mountains and traditional Asian buildings. The two larger side drawers flank the raised center with a top drawer designed in the same manner. All drawers retain their original Ormolu keyhole escutcheons and locks while surrounded by a delicately mottled Brass trim. The front, sides and back all showcase similar Japanese Lacquered scenes, while separated by the rounded corners accented with Giltwood flutes. Each side is fitted with a concealed and gold tooled Leather topped pullout below the burgundy colored and gold tooled Leather top which is surrounded by a black Japanese Lacquer border before a Giltwood outer edge
