About the Item

A very good quality late 18th century Georgian mahogany cylinder desk having well figured roll top, enclosing baize sliding writing surface with ratcheted slope and interior drawers, over two short and one long frieze drawers retaining elegant original brass handles raised on fine square tapered legs with original brass castors. An elegant, functional and practical piece of 18th Century furniture this desk is constructed from good quality, rich mahogany which has retained a lovely warm colour and patina to it's surface. The top, which unusually for one of these of this date still operates very well, opens to reveal a good sized, slide out writing surface which is a most practical and sensible design indeed, as obviously it means you can work on a nice large writing surface when required, however it can be slid away and tucked behind the slope when not in use hiding any messy papers and documents from prying eyes.  The desk also retains fabulous quality original handles and also original brass handles. It would be a lovely, elegant addition to just about any home from not only a functional, practical perspective, but also a visual perspective adding some 18th century charm and elegance to any room required. Circa 1780. Measures: height 40in. Width 28in. Depth 20in.
