About the Item

A mid-century modern bar cart produced by Oca, Rio de Janeiro, circa 1960s, designed by Sergio Rodrigues. Constructed with rosewood veneer over a rosewood solid frame, the piece features a Formica top surface and is mounted on chromed casters characteristic of Oca's production vocabulary. The cart has been previously restored. Rodrigues (1927–2014) studied at the Faculdade Nacional de Arquitetura, graduating in 1952. He founded Móveis Artesanal Paranaense in Curitiba before establishing Oca in Rio de Janeiro in 1955, a space that functioned as both a commercial outlet and an experimental platform for Brazilian furniture and craft. His work engaged with questions of national identity through the use of native woods including rosewood, peroba, and imbuia.
