About the Item

A wonderful form three part German Baroque secretary desk in walnut & fruitwood, its upper case with a molded cornice surmounting a case with a locking center door with pull out upper compartment revealing five hidden drawers behind, flanked by five fitted drawers on each side (the drawers only open if the center door is open - the center door acts as a lock), over a middle case with slant top, opening to a writing surface and four fitted interior drawers, over a lower case with a shaped top and three large drawers, each with decorative round brass ring pulls, and delicate line inlay, all supported by four bun feet. The entire secretary is decorated with crossbanded veneers, line inlay. German in origin, dating to the 18th century, in very good overall condition, with some veneer losses and restorations, edge losses, and other imperfections and wear commensurate with age and use.
