About the Item

19th century Swedish secretary or "bureau," crafted in pine. The piece has Rococo styling with a curved bonnet crown and three gracefully curved large drawers below. It has been given a newer layered black painted finish that is slightly scraped and distressed, revealing some of the natural wood below in a way that suits its age. The desktop opens to rest on two extending arms, revealing several cubbies and curved drawers within. The upper cabinet key and lock still function, while all other keys are to be used as pulls only. The upper cabinet opens to reveal two shelves and two drawers, and the interior is painted in a contrasting light bluish gray. Cracks and separations are seen running along the back. Many drawer bottoms, both small and large, show minor cracks, separations, and signs of old dried wormhole activity that is no longer active. Minor cracks, scratches, and nicks are seen throughout, including along the sides and desktop when closed. The secretary is built in two sections (currently they are attached, see back photo), and the lower cabinet has side handles for easier transportation and installation. Restored strong, stable, and ready to use. Please refer to professional photos for clear understanding of color, condition, and details; photo lighting, individual monitor display and home lighting all impact how item is viewed.
