About the Item

A refined example of Scandinavian Modern design, this modular shelving system was designed by Olof Pira in Sweden during the 1960s. The system features beautifully grained teak shelves combined with anthracite-colored metal rods and brackets, creating a striking architectural contrast between warm wood and industrial elements. The minimalist construction allows for adjustable shelf placement, offering flexibility for books, objects, or curated displays. Olof Pira originally developed this shelving concept in the mid-1950s, and it became known for its clean structural logic and understated elegance. Depending on production period, examples were manufactured under Pira’s own name and later also by Swedish producers such as String Design AB. This particular piece is in very good vintage condition. The teak has been professionally cleaned and oiled, preserving its depth of color and natural warmth.
