About the Item

Unusual 18th Century Italian Walnut Four Door Side Cabinet with Architectural Detailing.  This outstanding cabinet has a plain planked top with a dentilled frieze running around the front and sides of the piece and then a fine moulding. Supporting this moulding is a series of ionic columns, their capitals resting against the base of the work above. These columns flank both sides of each corner and between the two sets of doors, as well as at the back of each side.  Between the columns on the sides are deep panelled mouldings. The same mouldings are used on the door fronts with the addition of turned wooden handles to open them. Standing on large block feet. The interior has single shelves in each cupboard.  Almost certainly a bespoke commission, and a very unusual piece indeed.

A rare and handsome Bolognese sideboard from the early 18th century, crafted in solid walnut with a warm, aged patina that highlights the wood’s natural grain and depth. This substantial piece features two paneled doors with decorative geometric insets and bold turned roundels, framed by carved pilasters and crowned with a molded dentil cornice. The architectural design reflects the Baroque influence typical of northern Italian furniture of the period, yet retains a sense of rustic elegance. The interior reveals ample storage with two full-length shelves, making it both practical and visually striking. The solid plank back, original iron hinges, and beautifully worn interior all speak to the authenticity and craftsmanship of the era. Raised on bracket feet, the piece is well-balanced and sturdy.
