About the Item

Two-body cabinet completely veneered in mahogany feather; it has both in the narrower upper part and in the lower part two doors surmounted by a drawer and framed by a pair of uprights with an octagonal base. The mullions are embellished with carvings of pointed arches in the Gothic style, as in the same style is the carved cymatium with openwork trefoils and two pine-cone carved pinnacles. The bottom drawer contains a leather-covered drawer pull that serves as a desk; opening the two drawers allows the doors to be opened by a release mechanism. The lower ones conceal shelves, while the doors of the riser conceal twenty-two maple pulls with coin housings, some still bearing the piece of velvet on which to rest them; the pulls have mahogany fronts with two knobs each in the shape of a silver lion protome. The construction is fir and pine, the hardware finished in brass.
