About the Item

In 104 years of specializing in period Georgian and Georgian style Antique English furniture, but once-in-a-lifetime does a piece, regardless of age, evidence a quality that is unsurpassed by more British cabinetmakers. This sideboard, though one hundred years after its designer Thomas Chippendale worked, was evidently made by a craftsman whose ability was near that of his teacher. A Chippendale style masterpiece, the carving and intricate details on this large and imposing palatial sized sideboard is second-to-none. Please note the hand-carved beadwork around the perimeter of the sideboard as well as the blind-fretwork along a band in the center. The serpentine shape would be difficult enough and made from select, solid highly figured mahogany with a cross-banded top of crotch mahogany. The carved ogee feet are a testament to the quality and the mahogany lined drawers are expectedly hand-dovetailed. (See the detailed images provided). The carved acanthus leaf motifs are crisp a and the central drawer pulls out to reveal additional storage while the cupboards left and right reveal additional drawers and abundant storage. And the Rococo cast brass Chippendale style handles ARE original! There are definitely OLDER sideboards we have sold, but none any finer. A true Masterpiece!
