About the Item

Spanish Brutalist Four-Door Sideboard, Solid Pine, Wrought Iron, 1970s. This long sideboard is built from solid pine with a plank-constructed case and a thick overhanging top. The four arched cabinet doors are made of vertical boards framed by applied battens with rounded ends and studded fixings, and each door is fitted with a carved wooden latch turn. Four drawers sit above the doors with raised plank facings that echo the rustic joinery of the piece. The heavy proportions, exposed woodwork, and hand-forged detailing give this pine sideboard a strong architectural presence rooted in the Spanish Brutalist idiom. The panelled sides and stile legs continue the honest, planked construction throughout. Good vintage condition. Minor surface marks and wear consistent with age and use.

Spanish Basque workshop, four-door sideboard, solid oak, Spain, 1950s. The two central doors carry an interlocking rectangular grid motif carved in bold relief, a pattern of nested frames that creates depth and rhythm across the front face, while the two outer doors are panelled in plain horizontal planks to give the composition a satisfying contrast of decorated and plain surfaces. Two drawers fitted above the central doors provide additional storage. The wood is pale natural oak, left with minimal finish so the open grain remains prominent and the surface retains a raw, honest character throughout. All hardware is hand-forged black iron: strap hinges with scroll ends, ring pulls mounted on decorative backplates, and diagonal bar latches on the door fronts. This combination of carved oak relief with ornamental ironwork is characteristic of Basque furniture...
