About the Item

This rare and stunning vitrine was crafted by the illustrious French ébéniste François Linke. A master of the Louis XVI style, Linke was renowned for his highly original designs that blended the opulence of Rococo with elements of the Art Nouveau. The two styles come together in perfect harmony in this exquisite vitrine, which displays all of the gilt splendor of Rococo and fluid lines of Art Nouveau. The impressive display cabinet is adorned by beautifully chiseled and gilded bronze mounts of floral garlands and elegant scrollwork. Perfect proportion gives this beautiful vitrine a lightness in design, achievable only by a master craftsman like Linke. Celebrated by the French as one of the greatest ébénistes of luxury furniture at the turn of the century, Linke was a master at creating original designs of exceptional quality. His presentations at the 1900 Paris Exhibition Universelle and numerous other exhibitions helped to cement his reputation as the finest furniture maker of the Belle Époque.
