About the Item

Exquisite Wellenschrank from Zurich made around 1730. The name Wellenschrank (meaning “wavy cabinet”) refers to the defining feature of its three-dimensional, wave-like front panels. This technique, achieved through expert wood carving and layering, creates a rhythmic, undulating effect that gives the armoire a sense of movement and depth. Master craftsmen employed book matched veneers, where mirrored wood grain patterns were arranged symmetrically across the doors and moldings. This meticulous technique enhances the luxurious appearance of the piece, making each Wellenschrank unique.
