About the Item

Modernist Dutch bar cart in the manner of Janni van Pelt, rendered in a spare rectilinear form that reflects the discipline of postwar Dutch design. The tubular black enameled metal frame rises on four caster wheels, with a single push-handle bar at the top tier — a restrained gesture that keeps the silhouette clean and uncluttered. Both shelves are fitted with inset wire grid glass, the embedded mesh giving each panel a quiet industrial texture without disrupting the overall lightness of the structure. The cart belongs to a tradition of Dutch service trolleys produced through the 1950s and 1960s, when designers associated with manufacturers like 't Spectrum brought a rigorous functionalism to domestic objects. Van Pelt's approach — stripping furniture to its structural logic while maintaining proportion and craft — is evident throughout this piece. The geometry is precise, the materials unpretentious, and the result is a cart that reads as resolved rather than reduced. Wire glass panels are original and show wear consistent with age and use, including minor surface cloudiness. Casters are functional.
