About the Item

Bringing architectural presence and Old World character to a living room, this striking antique trestle coffee table was crafted in Italy circa 1850. The sculptural carved wood base features two substantial urn-form pedestals, each embellished with fluted details, scrolling handles, acanthus leaves, and molded circular collars. Raised on shaped plinth feet, the pedestals are joined by a long carved stretcher decorated with a repeating foliate border and a central bud-form finial. The rectangular surface is fitted with a later variegated brecciated marble top displaying a dramatic mosaic-like composition of burgundy, reddish brown, blush, cream, and white veining. Its bold coloration provides a handsome contrast to the aged silver-leaf finish of the carved base. The antique Italian cocktail table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and retains a richly worn, time-softened silvered patina with traces of warm gilt undertones. Sculptural and versatile, it could serve as a coffee table, low center table, or statement occasional table in a formal salon, library, or sophisticated contemporary interior.
