About the Item

Square coffee table designed in the style of Paolo Piva's iconic Alanda table. The base is constructed from black enameled metal wire formed into a series of repeating triangular and pyramidal geometric units, terminating at small ball feet. A square perimeter frame supports the thin clear glass top. The open wire construction creates a graphic, architectural quality from all angles. Paolo Piva designed the Alanda table for B&B Italia in 1982. The design reflected the broader Italian interest in geometric structural expression during the early 1980s, a period when architectural thinking was being applied directly to furniture form. The Alanda's wire pyramid base became one of the more recognizable silhouettes of Italian Postmodern furniture design. The table shows wear consistent with age and use.
