This rare and sculptural coffee table exemplifies Giuseppe Scapinelli’s masterful interpretation of Brazilian modernism in the postwar period. Designed and produced in Brazil in the 1950s, the table features a generously scaled, organically contoured wooden top resting on an expressive base composed of curved, intersecting supports. Scapinelli’s design language—deeply influenced by European modernism yet rooted in Brazilian craftsmanship—is evident in the fluidity of the structure and the refined balance between strength and elegance. The base reads almost as a continuous gesture, showcasing exceptional joinery and a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the wood grain. Designer Bio: Giuseppe Scapinelli was an Italian-Brazilian furniture designer who worked primarily in the mid-20th century. Scapinelli's work was heavily influenced by the Art Deco and Bauhaus movements, as well as his own personal experiences as an immigrant to Brazil.
