AL-02 Console Table by Orlando Pippig Dimensions: W 92 x D 31 x H 81 cm (Dimensions may vary slightly) Materials: Aluminum, White Oak AL-02 is the continued study into aluminum’s deeply layered characteristics. A physical and visual interaction of strength and softness. The AL series focuses on large rectangular planes, allowing the material to absorb and reflect its surroundings. Soft reflections are interrupted by the hard edges of each plane. White oak is at the core of this table’s structure, concealing the joints that make the connection of the aluminum possible. Slip joints and internal fasteners allow this piece to be fully disassembled. This method of construction helps to ensure a long product life- as each piece can be easily repaired or replaced, helps to mitigate shipping burdens and allows for separation for end of life recycling. The aluminum is hand brushed/waxed and the white oak has a clear matte plant based finish. About Orlando Pippig is a self taught furniture / object designer currently living and working in New York City. For the last 8 years, he’s been designing and fabricating high end furniture, centered around solid wood and metal. In 2020 he opened his own studio. His personal designs are rooted in visual simplicity that’s driven by form, with a strong focus on highlighting specific materials. Drawing inspiration from many sources; nature, sculpture, industrial environments, architecture, he finds ways to mesh these separate sources into singular expressions. His work is influenced by systematic iteration, working individual concepts into multiple designs to create a linear progression. The design process favors an engineering approach, the goal of fully understanding connection methods and how to best implement. These thinking patterns result in furniture that holds superior strength and a genuine form.
