About the Item

Contemporary console butterfly, Paesaggio collection designed by Hannes Peer for SEM. Wooden structure, concrete/cement handmade resin finish. Behind the natural iconography of furniture pieces names, there are hidden elements with a strong and defined identity, made possible by precise design and material choices. Butterfly console has a complex, organic configuration with new shapes in which architecture, engineering and design meet. The sinuous three-dimensional wooden shapes that support the console top become a fascinating aesthetic element, which is available in different finishes and colors: a concrete handmade resin finish and a refined high crafted glossy porcelain effect. A console like a bridge. Homage to the structure of the Basento bridge, designed by the Italian engineer Sergio Musmeci in 1967, was created between 1971 and 1976, concretizing the theories on the structural minimum of the designer, according to which "it was necessary to outline a single solution with a mathematical formula of a static nature to be sure of the best use, that is the minimum weight, of a given structure." Butterfly, like Musmeci's bridge, has a complex, organic structure with unusual shapes, it creates harmony between architecture, engineering and design, its modernity is represented by the result of a creative approach that extracts its expressive abilities from the structure, providing a complete, clear and fascinating information on the functions to which it responds. Above, the top is a straight and thin line, a sensually shaped plate on the sides, below, sinuous three- dimensional shapes reminiscent of the crests of a free-range rooster or the headdresses of hospital nuns in certain Federico Fellini's dreams, a thin shell that continuously dances and in the same way, on the fingertips, to support the deck and rest on the ground. Available in all RAL colors, please inquire with us for details.

Contemporary Butterfly Oblong Table in Solid natural walnut by Hannes Peer

Contemporary Butterfly Oblong Table in Solid natural walnut by Hannes Peer

By Hannes Peer, SEM

Located in Brooklyn, NY

The 'Butterfly in the dining table version made of solid wood is a project that Hannes Peer together with Claudio Spotti of SEM have been pursuing for a long time. The final decision came in view of the Salone 2021. The aim was to create a piece of furniture that was aesthetically the child of the iconic 'Butterfly' console but constructively it had to be diametrically opposed. The 'Butterfly' Dining Table is in fact made with several layers of solid poplar wood composed as a structure and receives its external finish with a 'Masselletto' of Canaletto Walnut with a velvety surface. An immediately visible detail is the so called 'Butterfly' Joint at the center of each leg that characterizes this design object and renders it unique. These joints are typical for Japanese carpentry...
