About the Item

An exceptional and large scale Neapolitan 18th century Louis XV Period Giltwood and faux Marble console. This wonderful freestanding console from Naples, Italy is raised by four triangular shaped, mottled and tapering legs with scrolled foliate sprays. The central pierced frieze has a richly carved reserve of a double shell designs amidst swaging foliate carved scrolls. The two sides are elegantly designed with a scrolled frieze and central shell. Above is the mottled trim below the wonderfully faux painted Sienna marble top with an ogee edge. *The underside retains a historic paper provenance label from renowned Florentine antiquarian "Ubaldo Giugni / Antichità / Via dei Banchi N. 5 - Firenze,"
