About the Item

Pair of 18th Century Italian Rococo console tables retaining their original painted and parcel-gilt decoration. Each with a generously shaped/serpentine top in a dark, slate-toned finish, edged with a warm red line and gilt highlights. The aprons are crisply contoured and enriched with scrolling Rococo ornament, centred by a shaped cartouche and trailing foliate motifs, all picked out in gilding against the aged ground. Raised on four elegant cabriole legs, each leg painted to match and further detailed with gilt scrollwork and strapwork-style flourishes, terminating in small shaped feet.  The surfaces now present with a beautifully timeworn patina, including areas of rubbing, chips and wear to the lacquer and gilding, entirely consistent with age and adding to the character of these decorative, highly usable consoles—perfect flanking a doorway, beneath mirrors, or as lamp tables in a drawing room.
