About the Item

An impressive 1920s Art Deco rectangular writing desk, crafted in richly figured rosewood and retaining its original chrome-finished fittings. The streamlined design features a broad rectangular writing surface above a central locking drawer, positioned between two banks of drawers. Each side contains two generously proportioned drawers fitted with distinctive horizontal chrome-finished handles. A polished metal keyhole escutcheon provides an elegant focal point to the central drawer. The desk stands on four tapered legs and displays the balanced proportions, refined materials and geometric detailing associated with French Art Deco and Streamline Moderne furniture. The polished rosewood finish highlights the attractive natural grain while retaining an authentic vintage character. The desk is in the style of Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, although there are no visible attribution or maker’s marks. A substantial and highly decorative period desk suitable for use in a study, library, executive office or sophisticated interior.
