About the Item

Architectural Oak Desk with Parquet Top, France, 1940s Form distilled to mass and rhythm — a collector’s piece of sculptural restraint. This commanding French oak dining table, crafted in the 1950s, distills post-war design to its essentials: structure, surface, and raw material integrity. Its bold pedestal legs, carved with stacked concentric reliefs, evoke the elemental footing of modernist architecture — more grounded form than ornament. The top, constructed in a square parqueted pattern, adds a dynamic layer of tonal variation and visual rhythm. Restored in Jada Galerie’s signature bleached finish, the oak’s natural grain is rendered in sculptural clarity, softening its monumental proportions. Its silhouette captures a transitional tension between the rustic monumentality of Charles Dudouyt and the austere brutalism that marked Pierre Chapo’s early work. It is a piece of quiet conviction — resolute, architectural, and deeply tactile. The table measures 140 cm closed and extends to 240 cm in length, with a width of 100 cm and height of 73 cm. It comfortably seats six, or eight when extended. Light wear and softened edges attest to its age, while its structure remains sound and enduring. Available for private acquisition.
