About the Item

Finn Juhl for Bovirke, desk, model ‘BO 69’, teak, metal, brass, Denmark, design ca. 1953, made late 1950s Finn Juhl conceived this rare version of the desk model ‘BO 69’ in the late 1950s. Bovirke first produced a model after a design by Juhl in 1953. This was a teak version with four polychrome painted wood drawers. This specific desk is likely a custom piece, designed especially for the office. It is an exquisite version executed in teak with two split brass handles: a very typical Juhl design trademark. The desk also features two drop-down leaves, which Juhl placed on a slim base executed in metal and highlighted with wooden feet. The drawers in teak are adjusted with a gap towards the top so that the table keeps its light, floating appearance. Finn Juhl (1912-1989), born in Denmark, planned on becoming an art historian when he was young. His father however decided it would be a better career move if he went to become an architect. After his architecture degree Juhl worked for ten years with Vilhelm Lauritzen. At the age of 33 Finn Juhl opened his own furniture design practice. In the 1940s he designed a number of creations that regenerated Danish furniture design, and broke with the established furniture tradition. Juhl is known as the one of the most important pioneers of Danish design. He was in fact the first Danish furniture designer to gain widespread international recognition. His work was vital to spreading the “Danish Modern” concept around the world. His designs are re-known for being exquisitely elegant, refined up until the smallest detail and extremely well executed. The width of the piece without the extra leafs on the sides in use is 140 cm / 55.12 in. Kindly take note that the table is in good, used condition. The top contains a visible stain. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.
