About the Item

An elegant Georgian two drawer writing table in mahogany featuring a tooled leather top, carved gadrooned edge, beaded drawer fronts and bronze bail handles with lion mask escutcheons, all over square section straight legs with inside chamfers. Some visibility of underlying structure beneath leather. England, circa 1755. Although a fairly simple piece of Georgian furniture, this writing table shares similarities with far grander pieces of English furniture by William Hallett, the Royal cabinet maker, such as the richly carved edge molding and the handles with lion mask escutcheons.
